State

Throughout each legislative session and during interim years, the Commission works to ensure that lawmakers across the state understand how barriers to justice affect their constituents and raise awareness about the importance of access to justice for all Texans.

The 89th Legislative Session:

The 89th Texas Legislature convened January 14, 2025 and will run through June 2nd, 2025. The Commission will be supporting both funding and non-funding legislation that will serve to increase access to the courts for low-income Texans.

Funding-related efforts:

The TAJC is supporting the Texas Supreme Court’s baseline budget request, which includes funding for basic legal services for the indigent for the 2026-2027 biennium.

Non-Funding-related Efforts:

The TAJC will be focusing on legislative issues related to increasing access to language services in court and automating record sealing. More information to come when our priority bills are officially filed.
