Our Work

Rural Access and Legal Deserts

Although there are over 95,000 active attorneys across the state of Texas, 91% of them are concentrated in the 10 largest metropolitan areas, leaving rural populations with little-to-no access. Indeed, there are 17 counties with just one lawyer and six counties with no lawyers at all. The Commission is exploring ways to increase access in rural areas, including remote proceedings, law schools, medical-legal partnerships, uniform forms and procedures, and other uses of technology.
